I started Lovinah Skincare during one of the most difficult chapters of my life. At the time, I was not trying to build a beauty brand. I was trying to find my way back to
myself. What began as a deeply personal journey of recovery has grown into a global skincare house rooted in ancestral African wisdom, modern science, and radical self-love.
I grew up around two very different kinds of authority. My grandmother was a herbalist and midwife. Women came to her for both. My father was a traditional chief. In my home, ancestral knowledge was not folklore. It was how things were done.
My grandmother taught me herbalism herself. Which roots. Which leaves. Which oils. Which ferments. And why. I watched her brew zobo, hibiscus fermented slowly, patiently, with a rhythm she never rushed. She did not call it biotechnology. She called it care. But every step held the quiet intelligence of fermentation, botanical preparation, and generational knowledge long before a lab ever gave it a name.
Then I entered another world entirely.
Science. Technology. Biochemistry. Corporate discipline. Investment banking. Energy trading. Software development. High pressure rooms with no patience, no ritual, and very little room for softness. That world taught me structure, precision, and discipline. It taught me how to think clinically, build systems, and respect data. But when my life fell apart, it was not the boardroom that brought me back to myself.
It was the memory of my grandmother’s hands. Her herbalism. Her ferments. Her patience. Her belief that the body could be tended, not punished.
So I went deeper.
I studied esthetics, skin science, laser technology, biotechnology manufacturing, and fermentation science. I was not chasing a trend. I was trying to understand, scientifically, what she had always known intuitively. Lovinah is what came out of that. A bridge between two worlds. Not folklore alone.Not sterile science alone.

The name Lovinah means “loving naturally.” It was inspired by my daughter when she was six years old, and it still carries the heart of the brand today. Loving naturally does not mean passive skincare. It means intentional care. Care grounded in wisdom. Care shaped by science. Care that respects the skin’s natural intelligence. Care that honors where a woman has been and supports where she is going next.

I built this company for the woman I was becoming, and for the women I kept meeting who felt invisible in their own skin. Women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond.
